Why Now?

There is an urgency to this time, in the winter of 2024-25. Faced with many challenges in our nation and the world, we need our lives to be grounded in creative, hopeful activity in our community.
 

In the Spring of 2024 a small group of singers came together to lay the groundwork for a new choral ensemble in Central New York. This group became the advisory board for the new organization. The advisory board chose the name Speranza for the new organization. Speranza is the Italian word meaning "hope," "faith," and "trust."

 

The board came together partly in response to the increasing divisions and divisiveness in the present time. Acknowledging there are many fine singing ensembles in Central New York, the board's intent is to create a choral ensemble that prioritizes enriching the lives of the singers with the most beautiful music from diverse choral traditions.
