Prior to the affirmation of our by-laws by vote of the members of the Chorale, a group of singers is serving as an advisory board for Speranza. Decisions are made by consensus, and when necessary, by vote of the board. In accordance with our draft bylaws, in 2026 our advisory board will be replaced by an elected board, comprised of members of Speranza Chorale.

Our Director
​
Philip Major, our founding director, is a 1984 graduate of Oberlin College and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he studied choral conducting under Daniel Moe. He has sung under the direction of Robert Fountain and Sir David Willcocks. Philip is especially interested in the choral music of diverse cultures, the unaccompanied polyphonic music of the European renaissance, and just about any music composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to his musical endeavors, Philip serves as priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Syracuse.
